Jamaica Nightlife
Jamaica Nightlife: For most vacationers, nightlife is found in the resorts, most which feature nightly shows that range from reggae performers and Elvis impersonators to special nights with fire eaters and limbo dancers Those looking for more Jamaica nightlife will find plenty of it, though. In Negril, evenings start about an hour before sunset at Rick's, the most popular sunset spot on the island. This Jamaica nightlife spot is located on the cliffs of the town's West End. It is an open-air restaurant and bar that is a true favorite among American guests. Much of the action begins with amazing cliff divers who leap from the crags above to the aquamarine depths below. The cheers of onlookers make this Jamaica nightlife spot an origianl. As the sun begins to set, your attention should turn to the west where couples look for the ‘green flash’, a natural phenomena that only occurs when the sun sets on a cloudless evening, producing an extraordinary experience of magical color. In Montego Bay, a popular Jamaica nightlife excursion is An Evening on the Great River (876-952-5047). This night would begin with a pick-up at your hotel. From there, the evening includes a boat ride up the torch-lit river, an open bar, Jamaican dinner, reggae band, and a native floor show with limbo dancers. It is a true Jamaica nightlife experience. At the most festive and outrageous of all the resort areas, you can dance until all hours of the night with a pass at Hedonism II (call 876-957-4200 to reserve this popular, but pricey, night pass). A half-million dollar disco keeps rhythm until 5 a.m. with laser effects, flashing lights, and all kinds of music. This Jamaica nightlife spot is an adult only affair. Other Jamaica Nightlife spots include: Time 'n' Place (Falmouth, east of Montego Bay; tel. 876/954-4371): A raffish beach bar built of driftwood, this place looks as though it might blow away in the next storm. The setting is so authentic that many fashion magazines, including Vogue, have used it for background shots. The bartender makes the island's best daiquiris. Mingles (Kingston; tel. 876/929-9000): In the Courtleigh Hotel, this is one of the best places-and the safest-to be after dark in the capital of Jamaica. Filled with Jamaican youth, it is both a bar and a dance club, with uniformed bartenders and the constant beat of reggae, pop, and soca. Jamaic'N Me Crazy (Ocho Rios; tel. 876/974-2201): The most popular club in this resort area, this hotspot may have the best lighting and sound system on the island. In winter the aura is virtually that of a New York club, so don't come for an authentic Jamaican experience. Margueritaville Sports Bar & Grill (Montego Bay; tel. 876/952-4777): If you're macho, or at least grow hair on your chest, head for the most popular sports bar in Jamaica. Overlooking the sea, across from the Coral Cliff Hotel, this hangout also serves the best margaritas on the island and features the best sports broadcasts on satellite TV.
